Parent-Child Craft Workshop: Families Create Patchwork Bags at Threadify Fashion Complex

On 18th July, families gathered at the Threadify Fashion Complex in Keqiao for a Saturday unlike the usual weekend routine. Instead of screens or shopping malls, parents and kids spent two hours hand-making their own patchwork bags, surrounded by thousands of fabrics at the heart of Keqiao's textile industry.

The Parent-Child Craft Workshop: Create a Bag of Joy was hosted by Threadify in partnership with Huaying Communication Studio, and it turned out to be exactly what it promised: a hands-on, memorable family experience built around real fabric and real craftsmanship.

Exploring the Threadify Fabric and Accessories Supermarket

The afternoon began with a fabric treasure hunt through the Threadify Fabrics and Accessories Supermarket, a 5,000-square-meter space stocked with fabrics from more than 200 local Keqiao textile companies. Families wandered freely, feeling the simplicity of cotton and linen, the elegance of velvet, and the casual texture of denim before picking the materials that matched their taste.

It's this range and depth of collection, spanning everyday basics to specialty and functional fabrics, that made it possible for every family to walk away with a bag that felt personal rather than generic.

From Cutting to Sewing: A Hands-On Design Process

Next, families moved into the designer co-working space at the Threadify Fashion Complex, where professional instructors guided each parent-child pair through cutting and piecing together the prototype of their bag. Professional sample makers handled the final stitching and edging, so families could focus on the creative part of the process.

Over a tea break in the common area, parents and kids swapped ideas and compared designs, turning the workshop into as much a social experience.

Personal Touches: Bag Decoration

The workshop wrapped up with a decoration session, where families added hand-sewn floral motifs, embroidered labels, and beads to their finished bags. Each bag came out looking different, shaped by the fabric choices and personal touches added along the way.
